BLACKSHEAR- On November 7, 2007, former Pierce County Deputy Clerk of Court Kelley Byrd, 25, of Pierce County was arrested by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in Blackshear, Ga. Byrd was charged with 1 count of theft by taking concerning missing funds from the Clerk of Court's office. The warrant indicates the amount of theft was over $500 and occurred between April of 2007 and October of 2007.

The GBI was requested November 2, 2007 by Pierce County Sheriff Richard King to investigate possible missing funds from the Clerk of Court's office. The GBI is still in the process of reviewing and examining records from the Clerk’s office to determine the amount taken.
