GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Bartow County
Acworth, GA (February 15, 2019) – On Friday, February 15, 2019, the GBI was requested by the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) to conduct an officer involved shooting investigation. Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 11:51 am, BCSO Deputy Matthew Aliberti initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by a male subject, identified as Charles Allen Brock, 47, of Bartow County. Brock failed to stop his vehicle and a chase ensued lasting approximately eight minutes. Brock’s vehicle left the roadway during the chase at 4956 Country Lane, Acworth, Bartow County, GA. At that point, Deputy Aliberti exited his vehicle and pursued Brock’s vehicle on foot. Brock then attempted to run over Deputy Aliberti with his vehicle, at which time Deputy Alberti fired multiple times at the vehicle, striking Brock. Brock was transported to Kennestone Hospital where he is in critical, but stable condition. Once released, charges are expected to be filed by the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office.
A female passenger in Brock’s vehicle was uninjured and arrested on unrelated charges by the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputy Aliberti was not injured in this incident.
The GBI will continue its independent investigation. Once complete, it will be turned over to the Cherokee Judicial Circuit District Attorney for review.
