GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in DeKalb County - UPDATE
DeKalb County, GA (January 10, 2019) - Two of the subjects involved in this officer involved shooting have been identified as:
Qasim Abdullah, age 20. Abdullah remains in the hospital.
Darion Jones, age 26. Jones is deceased.

DeKalb County, GA (January 8, 2019) – On Monday, January 7, 2019, the GBI was requested by the DeKalb County Police Department (DKPD) to investigate an officer involved shooting involving a Clarkston Police Department officer working a part-time security job.
Preliminary information indicates that late Monday night at the Red Lobster located at 2522 Candler Road, the Clarkston Officer observed a male victim of a robbery in the parking lot. The officer approached and attempted to aid the male. While the officer was attending to the male victim, four other male subjects entered a vehicle and shot at the officer and victim as they drove away.
The officer discharged his firearm at the male subjects in the vehicle, shooting two of the male subjects. The vehicle exited the parking lot and traveled further down Candler Road where the vehicle came to rest. Four male subjects exited the vehicle. Two male subjects were able to flee the scene and their identify and current location are unknown.
The other two male subjects were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital with gunshot injuries.
One male subject is currently deceased, and the other male subject sustained non life-threatening injuries.
No officers were injured during the incident.
The GBI will conduct its independent investigation. Once complete, it will be turned over to the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office for review.
