GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Henry County, GA
Stockbridge, GA – On Saturday May 14, 2016, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Henry County Police Department to investigate an officer involved shooting that occurred as a result of a SWAT standoff in the 400 block of Swan Lake Road in Stockbridge, Georgia.
Preliminary information indicates that on Friday, May 13, 2016, at approximately 7:00 pm, Henry County Police was dispatched to a domestic violence verbal disturbance at a residence on Swan Lake Road in Stockbridge. The verbal disturbance was described as being between a father and son at the residence. Later Friday evening at approximately 11:00 pm, Henry County Police were dispatched again to the same address for domestic violence involving a gun being fired. It was reported that the son had shot at the father who was not injured and fled the home. Henry County Police arrived at the residence and no one responded to the door. As a result, the situation was considered a barricaded gunman and Henry County PD SWAT was dispatched to the address at approximately 11:45 pm. Numerous attempts to make contact with the individual were made with no success. At approximately 2:40 am, SWAT entered the home. Once inside, SWAT officers determined the individual was still inside the home as they continued to establish contact with him. A Taser was fired as well as gunshots inside the residence, fatally wounding the individual. None of the police officers were injured during the incident. The names of those involved are not being released at this point as the investigation is in its early stages.
An autopsy will be performed by the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Decatur.
The GBI will conduct an independent investigation to determine what occurred during the incident. When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the District Attorney for judicial review.
