GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Chatham County
Chatham County, GA - On Friday, December 18, 2015, the GBI’s Statesboro Regional Office was requested by the Thunderbolt Police Department to investigate an officer involved shooting that resulted in the arrest of Tiffany Chisholm, age 24.
On Friday, December 18, 2015, United States Marshall’s Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force members were executing an arrest warrant against a subject for a felony offense of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. During the operation, a vehicle driven by Tiffany Chisholm was stopped at 2237 East Victory Drive, Thunderbolt, GA by task force members. Chisholm reportedly drove towards Chatham County Deputy Walter Kent who was standing outside of one of the unmarked government vehicles. Deputy Kent fired his gun striking Chisholm in the neck/shoulder area. Subsequently, Chisholm’s vehicle collided with two unmarked government vehicles. Chisholm was transported to a local hospital and later released. No other injuries were reported during this incident.
Chisholm was taken into custody by members of the Fugitive Task Force and transported to the Chatham County Jail. In the course of this investigation, Chisholm has conveyed that she was not aware that the vehicles were being driven by law enforcement officers.
The GBI will conduct an independent investigation to determine what occurred during the incident. When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the District Attorney for judicial review.
