Clayton County Police Shooting Being Investigated by the GBI
Ellenwood, Georgia – On September 10, 2015, the Clayton County Police Department requested the GBI to investigate a shooting involving one of their officers. The initial information provided to the GBI regarding the shooting is that at about 12:30 pm, officers with the Clayton County Police Department and the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary in progress call at 5154 Katherine Village Drive in Ellenwood, GA. As the officers arrived at the residence they observed two subjects fleeing the residence. One subject identified as Antwan Hargett, 25, fled on foot and was later apprehended by a Clayton County Police Department K9 Unit. The other subject, Domenic Callaway, 26, drove toward one of the responding officers while attempting to flee in a silver Toyota Camry. The officer fired at Calloway striking him in the wrist and torso. Callaway was transported to Atlanta Medical Center where he is being treated for his injuries. A pistol was recovered from the silver Toyota Camry driven by Calloway. Hargett also received medical attention after his encounter with the police K9 and was released to police custody. The officers were not injured during the incident. Hargett and Calloway have been charged with Burglary and Obstruction by the Clayton County Police.
The GBI will conduct an independent investigation to determine what occurred during the incident. When the investigation is complete it will be turned over to the district attorney for any action she deems appropriate.
