Winterville, GA – On Thursday, November 6, Brett Allen Proffitt, 37, of Winterville, Georgia, was arrested for Sexual Exploitation of Children/Possession of Child Pornography and Child Molestation, both felonies.  During an undercover operation by the FBI, it was determined that an individual was distributing child pornography over the internet from a computer located at 39-A West Beaverdam Road in Winterville, Georgia.  Based on the images transmitted, it was apparent the individual was producing child pornography.  The information was forwarded to the GBI Athens Field Office for further investigation. 

A search warrant was conducted at the residence within hours of receiving the information.  Agents of the GBI and FBI located numerous electronic devices, which were taken from the residence for further examination.  Proffitt was taken into custody without incident and remains in the Oglethorpe County Jail with no bond.   The Oglethorpe County Sheriff’s Office and the Oglethorpe County Department of Family and Children Services continue to assist with the investigation.
