Atlanta, GA (May 24, 2023) –  The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an officer involved shooting investigation in Atlanta, Georgia. The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on May 24, 2023. One man was injured during the incident. No officers were injured. 

Preliminary information shows that at around 3:30 p.m., GSP troopers were on I-20 eastbound near Boulevard when a maroon Genesis was seen driving erratically.  GSP troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the Genesis and the driver refused to stop, fleeing from GSP.  The driver, identified as Ramadan Saleem, age 36, of Atlanta, exited onto Boulevard S.E., ran a red light and hit another vehicle before hitting a light pole. Saleem got out of his car. When officers made it to Saleem, Saleem pulled a gun and fired at officers. Officers returned fire, hitting Saleem. Two guns were found near Saleem. 

Saleem was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition. 

The GBI will continue its independent investigation & once it is complete, the case will be given to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
