Atlanta, GA (August 5, 2020) – On Wednesday, August 5, 2020, the GBI Atlanta Regional Office was requested by the Atlanta Police Department (APD) to initiate a shooting investigation.

Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 10:55 a.m., APD officers responded to a 911 call about Jonqurious Ty’Edward Kindel, 20, of Atlanta, who was currently located at 3041 Landrum Drive, Building 37, Apt. A, Atlanta, Fulton County, GA. Kindel had an outstanding arrest warrant for Robbery out of both Peachtree City, Fayette County, GA and East Point, Fulton County, GA. As officers attempted to take Kindel into custody, Kindel resisted arrest. During the struggle, an officer discharged their taser, striking Kindel. During the incident, Kindel shot himself with a handgun he had on his person, resulting in non-life threatening injuries. Officers administered first aid on the scene. Kindel was transported to a local area hospital where he is being treated for his injuries. No officers were injured during this incident. 

No officers were injured during the incident.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation. Once completed, it will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office.
