In accordance with O.C.G.A. § 42-1-12, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is the central repository for Georgia's Violent Sexual Offender Registry.
Obtaining Criminal History Record Information
Georgia criminal history records can be obtained from local Sheriff's or Police Departments. Please contact a local Georgia agency about specific requirements for obtaining a copy of your Georgia criminal history record.
Georgia Criminal History Record Restrictions
O.C.G.A. §35-3-37 provides for the restriction of certain criminal history records for non-criminal justice purposes when approved by the prosecuting attorney. For arrests after July 1, 2013, there is no application process. You must contact the prosecutor to have your record restricted. For arrests prior to July 1, 2013, you are required to apply for restriction at the arresting agency.
GAPS - Georgia Applicant Processing Service
GAPS provides agencies submitting fingerprint cards the option to have applicant background checks processed electronically within 2 days in a non-criminal justice environment.
Crime Statistics
The Georgia Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) program is part of a nationwide, cooperative statistical effort administered by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. In the 1920s, the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) envisioned the need for statistics on crime in our Nation. A voluntary national data collection effort was developed and initiated in 1930 and is the basis of the current UCR program.
BINGO
Bingo is one of only three legal forms of gambling in Georgia. The other two legal forms of gambling are the Georgia Lottery and raffles. Annually, millions of dollars pass through the hands of Georgia bingo operators. In 1980, the Georgia General Assembly passed legislation that gave the Georgia Bureau of Investigation the authority to enforce and regulate bingo.
