Secondary Metals Recycling

Georgia’s Secondary Metal Recycling (SMR) law, O.C.G.A. § 10-1-359.5, requires the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) to establish and maintain a database of purchase transaction information from SMRs.  Since December 2014, the GBI has administered a database of purchases made by Secondary Metal Recyclers (SMRs) in the state of Georgia.  The database is required by law to be accessible and searchable by law enforcement agencies to track metal sales across the state so as to deter the theft of metals in Georgia.  Under this law, Georgia secondary metal recyclers are required to submit information about their daily transactions to the GBI and make reasonable efforts to ensure that the data they collect and upload is complete and accurate (O.C.G.A. § 10-1-353).  An outside contractor, LeadsOnline, works with SMR businesses to set up and complete the registration process.  Please contact LeadsOnline for assistance registering your secondary metals recycling business in the state of Georgia.
