Norcross, Gwinnett County, GA (April 19, 2024) – At the request of the Gwinnett County Police Department, GBI agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Gwinnett County, GA. Steven Scott, age 39, of Lula, GA, was shot and killed in the incident. No officers were injured in this incident.

The preliminary information indicates on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at about 6:30 p.m., Gwinnett County Police Department (GCPD) officers were near Jimmy Carter Blvd and Peachtree Industrial Blvd when they located a burgundy Jeep. Scott, who was driving the Jeep, had active arrest warrants for armed robbery out of Hall County. Gwinnett County PD officers attempted to stop Scott and take him into custody for his warrants. Scott fled the scene in his jeep, and officers began to chase him. As Scott was driving away, he shot at the officers. A GCPD detective attempted to stop Scott by blocking the parking lot exit with his unmarked car. Scott continued shooting and hit the unmarked car as he (Scott) entered the roadway. Once on the roadway, Scott lost control of his jeep and came to a stop near a utility pole. A marked GCPD car used a PIT maneuver on Scott’s jeep to prevent Scott from driving away. As the officer got out of his car, Scott continued shooting towards the officers. The officer returned fire, killing Scott. Officers rendered aid to Scott until Gwinnett County fire and EMS arrived on scene and pronounced Scott dead.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Once complete, the case file will be given to the Gwinnett County District Attorney's Office for review.
