Atlanta, GA (February 14, 2024) – At the request of the Atlanta Police Department, GBI agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Atlanta, Georgia. Antonio Carter, age 31, of Atlanta, GA, was injured in the incident. No officers were injured in this incident.  

The preliminary information indicates at about 8:00 p.m., a uniformed officer with the Atlanta Police Department was patrolling on Brotherton Street when he noticed a parked car with a window broken. When the officer approached the car, he saw Carter inside the car. The officer gave Carter verbal commands to show his hands before firing into the car and hitting Carter. Carter got out of the car and was taken into custody. Officers rendered aid to Carter before he was taken to a local hospital for treatment.  

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Once complete, the case file will be given to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
