Carrollton, GA (November 25, 2019) – On Monday, November 18, 2019, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the death of Marquis Hayslett, 28. 

Preliminary information indicates that on Friday, November 15, 2019, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Villa Rica Police Department arrested Hayslett and charged him with one count of simple assault and one count of family violence stemming from an incident involving his girlfriend. Hayslett was transported to the Carroll County Jail.

At some point during his incarceration, Hayslett reportedly required medical attention for an illness and was placed in the medical holding unit of the jail. On Monday, November 18, 2019, at approximately 6:38 a.m., Hayslett was found unresponsive in his cell. Emergency medical services were called to attend to Hayslett who was reportedly already deceased.

A GBI autopsy of Hayslett is pending. The GBI will continue its independent investigation.  Upon completion of the investigation, the case will be provided to the Coweta County District Attorney’s Office for review.
