GBI Investigates Shooting in Bulloch County, GA

Statesboro, GA – On Friday, June 30, 2017, at approximately 3:10 PM, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation responded to the scene of a shooting that occurred in a vehicle, at the request of the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Department and the Jenkins County Sheriff’s Department.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the family was traveling from Waynesboro, GA to Jacksonville, FL.  As the vehicle was traveling through Jenkins County, GA, a juvenile in the vehicle was handling a firearm when it discharged, striking his mother, 35 y/o Tarina Ferguson.  An occupant in the vehicle called 911 and they stopped for help when they arrived in Bulloch County, GA.  Ferguson was transported to Augusta University Medical Center in Augusta, GA where she died from her injury.
