Monroe, Georgia – On Saturday, November 19, 2016, the Monroe Police Department with the assistance of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Athens Field Office began a death investigation at 525 Baron Drive, Monroe, GA.  Officers responded to the residence after a neighbor noticed that a bedroom window in the duplex apartment appeared to have been pushed in.  Officers arrived at the residence at approximately 12:05 pm and discovered Anthony Myron Sims, age 59, deceased within the residence.  Preliminary results of an autopsy conducted at the GBI Crime Lab in Decatur, Georgia on Monday, November 21,2016 indicated that Sims was murdered.  Authorities are withholding specific details concerning injuries while the investigation develops.

GBI Crime Scene Specialists from the Athens and Atlanta Field Offices have begun a third day of forensic processing at the residence which has been maintained under police control since Saturday.  GBI agents and Monroe detectives continue to follow leads in this investigation.

The victim's 2002 dark blue Dodge Dakota pickup truck displaying Georgia Tag DP9TEJ is missing from the residence and at this time it is believed it was taken during the murder.  A BOLO (be on the lookout) was issued nationwide Saturday; however, the vehicle has not been located.  Anyone spotting the vehicle or occupants are urged to contact their local law enforcement immediately and should not approach the vehicle or occupants under any circumstances.
