October 2, 2016

Dallas, GA –  On Saturday, October 2, 2016, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was requested by the Dallas Police Department to investigate an officer involved shooting that occurred in the 200 block of Park Street, Dallas, GA.

Preliminary information provided by Dallas authorities indicates that at approximately 11:07 PM, two Dallas PD officers responded to a hit and run incident at East Cooper and Park Street.  When officers arrived in the Park Street area, the subject’s vehicle was located.  The driver initially complied; however, as officers approached the vehicle, he restarted the vehicle and attempted to run over the officers.  Both officers fired multiple times, striking the vehicle.  Officers gave chase behind the vehicle.  The vehicle wrecked in the 1500 block of Industrial Boulevard North, Dallas GA.  Officers deployed a Taser and took Cody McKenzie, age 25, into custody.  It was determined that McKenzie had a wound to his right arm.  Medical personnel were called to the scene and he was transported to Kennestone Hospital.  McKenzie was treated for his injuries and released into the custody of the Dallas Police Department.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation to determine what occurred during the incident.  When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Paulding County District Attorney's Office for review.
