GBI Makes Arrest in the Shooting of Mayor Christopher Wright

Dawson, GA. –– On October 31, 2013 the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Sylvester Field Office was requested by the Dawson Police Department to investigate the shooting of Dawson Mayor Christopher Wright and the assault of his mother, Tonya Johnson –Wright.  The incident occurred at Mayor Wright’s residence.  Throughout the nearly two year investigation agents and members of the Dawson Police Department conducted numerous interviews and followed up on investigative leads.  As a result, law enforcement was able to develop a suspect.  


Today, the GBI with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Nakia Jones, 31, of 624 Holloway Street in Albany.  He has been charged with Aggravated Assault in connection with the shooting of Mayor Wright.  Jones was arrested without incident and booked into the Dougherty County Jail.
