On Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at approximately 1:30 am, the Union County Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of the GBI in the investigation of a missing person.

Kristi Cornwell, W/F, age 38, 5’ 5”, 150 lbs with dark shoulder length hair was last heard from at approximately 9:00 pm while walking on Jones Creek Road in Blairsville, Georgia.  She was last seen wearing a white tee shirt and tan shorts.

Authorities from the Union County S.O., the GBI, GSP, DNR, Dept. of Corrections and additional officers from neighboring sheriff’s departments joined an extensive search of the Jones Creek Road area and a Command Post has been established at the New Union Baptist church.

At this time authorities believe that Cornwell was abducted by vehicle while walking on Jones Creek Road, and is believed to be in extreme danger.  The community is being asked to contact the Union County Sheriff’s Office if they have any information concerning Cornwell’s disappearance.  Also, authorities are seeking information from anyone who was located on Jones Creek Road between 8:00 and 10:00 pm on Tuesday, August 11, 2009.

The search continues today in the area of Jones Creek Road. Uniformed officers continue to man check points in the area of Cornwell’s disappearance seeking assistance in the investigation.
