Atlanta, GA (May 26, 2020) – On Monday, May 25, 2020, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Atlanta Police Department (APD) to investigate an officer involved shooting.

Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 5:50 p.m., APD officers responded to shots fired in the area of Parkway Drive and Wabash Avenue in Atlanta. APD officers located a white SUV that was believed to be involved in the shots fired call. The white SUV came to a stop on Highland Avenue near Jackson Street. Four male subjects exited the vehicle. One of the subjects exited the vehicle with a firearm. APD officers fired several shots during the incident, striking one of the male subjects, identified as Reginald Carter, 30, of Conley. After a brief chase, Reginald Carter and two other subjects, identified as Demonte Thomas, 29, of Jonesboro, and Artez Carter, 24, of Atlanta, were apprehended and taken into custody by APD. A firearm was recovered from the scene. The fourth subject fled the area and his current whereabouts are unknown.

Reginald Carter was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released into the custody of APD.  

No officers were injured during the incident.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation.  When completed, the case will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
