Conyers, GA – Dash camera video from the May 31 shooting in Rockdale County involving a Rockdale County Sheriff’s deputy and Jeffrey Pitts, 36, of 3535 Ebenezer Road in Conyers, is being released today.  Deputies responded to the Ebenezer Road residence after a 911 call was received regarding a person shot.  After deputies arrived at the residence, gunfire was exchanged between one of the deputies and Pitts.  Pitts was deceased at the scene. 

A forensic autopsy was performed on the body of Pitts on June 1 by Dr. Kris Sperry, Chief Medical Examiner of Georgia.  The results of the autopsy are that the manner of death is suicide and the cause of death is contact range gunshot wound of head. 

The GBI, who is investigating the incident at the request of the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office, continues to work the investigation.  When the investigation is completed it will be turned over to District Attorney Richard Read for any action he deems appropriate.
