Decatur, GA - The third edition of the “Georgia Law Enforcement and the Open Records Act - A Law Enforcement Officer's Guide to Open Records in Georgia" is being released today.   Commonly referred to as the Georgia Open Records Handbook or Blue Book, the handbook is a guide utilized by law enforcement assisting them with understanding the law as it related to open records.  The book, which was initially published in 2002 with the second edition being completed in 2005, is a cooperative effort between the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Georgia Department of Law, the Georgia First Amendment Foundation, the Georgia Press Association, the Georgia Public Safety Training Center, the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association, the Georgia Department of Public Safety, and the Prosecuting Attorneys' Council of Georgia.  

The Open Records guide will be distributed to law enforcement agencies across Georgia and can be accessed on the GBI website at http://gbi.georgia.gov/documents/open-records-handbook.
