Jesup, GA - On Monday June 20, 2011 at approximately 3:30pm, the GBI’s Kingsland Office was requested by the Georgia State Patrol to investigate an apparent officer involved shooting which occurred at 841 North Fourth Street in Jesup Georgia.

Upon arriving on the scene, GBI agents were also requested by the Jesup Police Department to work the entire investigation that led to Jesup Police being called to the North Fourth Street residence of Vincent Allen, age 47.

Officers had been called to that residence after receiving reports that Allen had allegedly assaulted his family members in the drive way. When officers arrived, Allen refused to give up and relinquish his high-powered rifle to authorities leading to a standoff with Jesup police, Wayne County Sheriff’s deputies and Georgia State Patrol Troopers. During the standoff, Allen fired the weapon in the presence of the officers.

After Jesup Police, assisted by Wayne County Sheriff Deputies and GSP Troopers, were able to arrest Allen, it was found that Allen had been injured in the standoff.
Allen was transported to the Wayne County hospital and treated for what is believed to be a gunshot wound to his buttocks.   Allen was released and then transported to the Wayne County Jail.

After further investigation by GBI Kingsland, and GBI Douglas, warrants were served today, June 21, 2011, charging Allen with four counts of aggravated assault, and one count each of reckless conduct with a weapon, felony obstruction of law enforcement officers, and cruelty to children.

The investigation into this matter continues.
