Information Sought in Newton County Homicide

COVINGTON – The Newton County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are seeking information from the public on a homicide that occurred Sunday in Newton County.

The body of 28-year-old Gary Lamar Jones was discovered late Sunday night by his mother at their residence at 65 Benedict Drive in Covington.  The last known contact with Mr. Jones was around 1:30pm on Sunday.

While the manner of death is obviously homicide, an autopsy is being conducted this morning at the GBI crime lab to determine the exact cause of death.  Due to the investigative value, the results of the autopsy will not be released.
