SALARY:    $35,569.36/yr – $59,101.13/yr
                Salary commensurate with training and experience

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is seeking qualified applicants to fill a Grant Funded Forensic Toxicologist position.

As a condition of employment, the applicant must fully understand and agree to the possibility that the final work location, following the completion of training at GBI Headquarters in Decatur, GA, may be the Eastern Regional Laboratory located in Augusta, GA. The training period for a toxicologist is expected to be 14-18 months. All reasonable expenses that meet state rules associated with moving to a new work location will be paid by GBI if sufficient funding is available.

The selected applicant must be willing to sign a written service agreement to serve in the position for a period of twenty-four (24) months upon completion of twelve months of training. For grant positions, the service obligation will be terminated if grant funds are depleted prior to its completion.

The position will be filled at a level commensurate with the training and experience of the individual selected.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under immediate supervision, learns to perform laboratory examinations, scientific analyses and comparisons on bodily fluids, tissues, or other physical evidence submitted by local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to identify the presence or absence of alcohol and other drugs for investigative and legal purposes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, which included the successful completion of at least 40 semester (or 60 quarter) hours of chemistry coursework OR a forensic science degree, which included the successful completion of at least 40 semester (or 60 quarter) hours of chemistry coursework.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience working as a qualified forensic toxicologist in a crime laboratory.
